Alice Menden (Picture included)
Alice Menden was born Alice Bassett on May 9, 1925, to Cecil and Treva (Rader) Bassett in Ohio farming country and passed away June 27, 2012, at Orchard Villa after a prolonged illness. She met the love of her life, Francis Menden, during WWII and they were married shortly after the war. Alice was a noble stay at home Mom. She cared for her children and husband who had polio during the first years of their marriage and was there until her youngest started school. Then she started working outside of the home, which she loved. Alice started keeping books for Menden's Sohio, for her husband and then went into retail and worked for Montgomery Wards. After Montgomery Wards closed she began working in vending for Lehn and Fink's and the former Betty Crocker plant. In addition, Alice loved to crochet and many family members have afghans she made. She also loved crafting, which filled many hours after retirement. After retiring, she and her husband traveled several times to Arizona, to visit relatives. They loved to travel. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents, Cecil and Treva; brothers, Cecil Jr. Bassett and John Charles Bassett; and numerous sister and brother-in-laws. She leaves behind her children, Linda Bennett, Edward, and David Menden, and Toni (Richard) Sosnowicz; grandchildren, Roger (Julie), Russell (Wendy) and Vincent Whitacre, Jeremy Farley, Katherine (JB) Suttles, Nicholas Fortney and Stacey Menden; step-grandchildren, Susie (Leroy) Kosier, Sherry Ringer, Aaron Henderson and Jason (Beth) Sosnowicz; great-grandchildren, Lisa, Ashleigh, Stephanie, Johnathon, Sabrina, Aaron, Danielle, Angel, Nicole, and Jason Jr.; great-great-grandchildren, Troy and Coltin, and many close neighbors and friends. Family and friends may visit Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114-128 E. Alexis Rd. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Church at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be given to Heartbeat of Toledo.
