Donald Edwin Bassett
Donald Edwin Bassett, 85, of Blue Springs MO passed away on July 30, 2014. Visitation will be held on August 4th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 West Main St. Blue Springs MO, 64015. Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m., also at Meyers. Funeral mass will be held on August 5th at 10 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 4313 SW State Route 7, Blue Springs MO. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Donald may be made to Grace Hospice.
Donald Bassett was born on November 28, 1928 in Muncie Indiana. He was a graduate of Ball State University, Muncie Indiana in 1951 receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in business with a major in Accounting. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He was employed in the trucking industry his entire life. He worked for Consolidated Freightways in Indianapolis Ind., Akron OH, and Portland OR from 1956-1965. In 1965 he accepted a position as manager of the Accounting Department for Tri-State Motor Transit in Joplin MO. In 1979 he was appointed Treasure of Tri-State Motor Transit and held this position until retirement in 1990.
He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Blue Springs, MO. He was a 4th Degree life member of the Joplin Knights of Columbus #979. He was also a life member of the Joplin Elks Lodge #501.
He married Rita Ann Sahm on May 20th, 1961. They were married for 42 years. His wife Rita preceded him in death in 2003. He is survived by three daughters, Joan E. Bassett of Kansas City MO, Nanette M. Huser of Lee?s Summit MO, and Julie A. Johnson of Independence MO; sons-in-law, Joseph Huser, and Ryan Johnson; and 7 grandchildren, Rachel Huser Seura, Megan Huser, Tyler Huser, Colby Huser, Lauren Huser, Elias Johnson, and Samantha Johnson; and two great grandchildren, Colin Seura and Jackson Seura.
