Mr. Bass was born Sept. 21, 1910, in Pana, one of eight childred of Fredda and Nancy Gilbert Bass. A carpenter by trade, he lived many years in Illinois and California before settling in Austin in 1971. Surviving are his dearest friend and companion, Vesta Rutledge; daughters, Peggy Jones and husband Charles of Austin; Deloris Eckart and husband Jack of Decatur; brother, Charles Bass and wife Gerry of Decatur; sisters, Winnie Driscoll of Decatur; Fern Newsome of Ramsey; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; three great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
