Helen Nazar Bassett
NORTH GREENBUSH - Helen I. Nazar Bassett, 74, died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Samaritan Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Mary Nazar; and wife for 44 years of Bruce R. Bassett. She was raised in Middleport, Pa., and resided in Wynantskill for the past 39 years.
Helen worked for New York State for 30 years, most recently was an Audit Clerk for the State Comptrollers Office.
She enjoyed baking and candy making. She struggled, successfully, to make the perfect peanut butter cup.
Survivors in addition to her husband include several cousins.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 4-7 p.m.

Helen I. (Nazar) Bassett
Helen Irene (Nazar) Bassett passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, at Samaritan Hospital in Greenbush, N.Y.
She was born Feb. 27, 1949, in Cohoes, N.Y. She was a daughter of the late Mary Nazar, who passed away in 1989.
She grew up and attended grade school in Middleport and she graduated from Cohoes High School.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Bruce Bassett, and numerous cousins in two states.
Helen lived in Wynantskill, N.Y., and, prior to her retirement, was employed by the State of New York as an audit clerk in the state comptroller's office.
She was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed baking and candy making. She spent many hours tending her garden with loving care and enjoying its bounty. Helen was always a kind person with a warm heart, and she had a way of doing the nicest things when least expected. She held a special place in the hearts of her family and friends.
Funeral services were held Jan. 29 in Troy, N.Y. Divine Liturgy to honor Helen's memory will be scheduled in the near future at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Middleport.
