- OBITUARY: Mrs. Jane Watson Bassett, 87, a retired librarian, died early Sunday morning at her home, 310 Bluff St., after an extended illness. A daughter of the late Rolef and Alice Watson, she was born July 4, 1881 in Marianna, Ark. She attended the Alton schools and was graduated from Miss Bristow's school for girls in Covington, Ky. Mrs. Bassett was employed at the Jenny D. Hayner Library for 25 years prior to her retirement. She was married in 1904 in Alton to Robert E. Bassett, who preceded her in death in 1917. Only survivor is a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Bassett of Alton. Four brothers, a stepsister and a stepbrother also preceded her in death. Visitation at Morrow Quinn Mortuary will be from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. and from 7 until 9 p.m. today. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she was a member, with Father John Young, in charge. Burial will be in Alton City Cemetery.
