the early age of 8. She had to take care of the wood burning stove, the
feather beds, kerosene lamps, wash the kettles, cook, etc. It was rough for a
young girl. She obtained her teaching certificate in 1922, by attending Summer
Normal in Sherman, Texas. She attended for 6 weeks, then tested. She was also
given a test on Fundamentals in Cooke County. She took the train home to
Woodbine from Sherman. She taught for two years at Mountain Springs and two
years at Dye School near her home.
