Victor Herman Bass
Victor Herman Bass, 65, Born August 16, 1935 in Fairfield, IA, flew his final flight West on October 10, 2000, from Lake Worth, FL. A near lifelong local resident of Lake Worth, he was predeceased by his parents Victor L. Bass (former Golf Pro at Lake Worth Golf Course) and Nellie M. Bass (former Restaurant owner/manager at the Casino on Lake Worth Beach,) both of whom had strong roots in the Lake Worth community. In the early 1950's, while representing Lake Worth High School, Vic was a High School State Golf Champion. Upon graduation from L.W.H.S. in 1953, he attended The University of Tennessee on a Golf Scholarship. In 1957, he graduated from the United States Air Force Air Training Command Facility at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas earning aDiploma and aeronautical rating of "pilot", specializing in jet fighters. During his eight year tour-of-duty with the U.S. Air Force, Vic earned the rank of Major, primarily flying F-100's. He was on the front line of defense at Homestead Air Force Base, FL during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1964, Vic joined Delta Air Lines and provided the airline with 31 years of uncompromised service. He retired in 1995, at age 60, closing his beloved flying career as a B-767/B-757 Captain. During theearly "80's, Vic served as an ALPA Chairman for Delta's Miami-Based pilots, where his primary focus was flight safety.
His survivors include: Wife of 44 years, Claudia Hicks Bass; son, Victor Clayton Bass, wife Debra Bass and child Bridget Ann Bass of Lake Worth; daughter, Claudia Corinne Hill, husband Douglas Hill and children Matthew and Jenna of Excelsior, Minnesota; son, Claude Curtis Bass of Fort Worth, Texas; mother-in-law, Bernice Kuhl Hicks of Lake Worth. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at E. EARL SMITH & SON FUNERAL HOME 1032 No. Dixie Highway, Lake Worth, FL. The family will recieve friends on Thursday, October 12th from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00.
