Victor Jud Bassett (Pictures included)

Victor Jud Bassett passed away September 1, 2017 at the age of 86. A longtime resident of Sparta, Victor grew up in Cedar Springs, and after serving in the Marine Corp in the Korean Conflict, returned to marry his sweetheart, Janet West, from Rockford. During their more than 63 years of marriage, they raised four children in the home, Vic built in Sparta Twp. Janet and their children, Jill Marie West of Van Horn TX, Todd (Roxanne) Bassett of Howard City MI, Jane (Michelle Stuart) Bassett of Ann Arbor MI, and Ted (Kristie) Bassett of Sparta MI, all survive Vic. He leaves behind eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Vic, or Jud as extended family called him, will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of motorcycles, his skilled craftsmanship, and his dedicated service to country and family. Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 8, 1:00 P.M. at the Sparta United Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Friedrick officiating. Friends may meet the Family at the Church on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at 1:00 P.M. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan. www.hesselcheslek.com.
