Maxson, Cynthia 5/2/1957 - 6/1/2017 Chandler, Arizona Cynthia "Cindy" Maxson (nee Bassett) age 60, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 in Chandler, AZ. Her passing was due to an accidental fall at her Chandler home resulting in head/brain trauma. Cindy's journey began May 2, 1957 in Grand Rapids, MI. She attended elementary through high school in Cedar Springs, MI. She went on to college and graduated from Grand Valley State in Allendale, MI. She married her high school sweetheart, Dave Maxson, in 1981. After they moved to Arizona in 1984, Cindy got her masters degree from Arizona State University and started working for Maricopa Community Colleges/Rio Salado Community College. She worked there for over 30 years holding a number of different positions and earning numerous awards and recognitions. In 1987, she gave birth to her first child: daughter, Kelly. Two years later, she gave birth to a son: Mark. These were the two only children. She always loved animals and spent time volunteering at the Humane Society. She also loved participating and attending her children's activities, dining out with her family and friends, scrapbooking, weekend getaways, getting her hair and nails done. Preceded in death by her father, Irwin Bassett, her mother, Beverly Wingard (Bassett), and her brother, Mark Bassett. Survived by her brother, Brad Bassett, of Scottsdale, AZ; husband, Dave Maxson, of Chandler, AZ; daughter, Kelly Leach; son-in-law, John Leach; grandson, Carson Leach, all of Brooklyn, NY; and son, Mark Maxson, of Denver, CO. Cindy had requested an open house be held at home instead of a funeral. She wished to be cremated and not to have any type of visitation. In lieu of flowers, Cindy has requested donations to the Humane Society. Cindy made a huge difference with her exceptional teaching and intense care for her students' lives. With her community college roots and her on-line course development, she gave many students a chance who normally would not have had one. Kindly she also helped care for a number of pets through her volunteering with the Humane Society. She was a great mother, friend, and dear wife.
