James C. Luitweiler Jr.
James C. Luitweiler, Jr. of Buckingham died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at his home. He was 93.
He was the husband of the late Erika O. Luitweiler who passed in 2008.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late James C. and Marion Bassett Luitweiler.
Jim attended public school in Millburn, N.J. and entered the U.S. Army from Springfield College in Massachusetts. He served in the Seventh Armored Division until the end of World War II. There upon, he entered the University of Wisconsin on the G.I. Bill.
Following graduation, he married Erika Ochsner in 1948. They settled in Campton, N.H., where he did woodworking and Erika made silk screen prints and other artwork. They were active members of the New Hampshire League of Arts and Crafts.
Jim earned a teacher certification from Plymouth Teachers College in Hew Hampshire and moved to Farmington, Conn., where he taught upper elementary grades while studying to earn his MALS degree from Wesleyan University.
The Luitweilers moved to Buckingham in 1956, and he taught at Buckingham Friends School in Lahaska and then in the Central Bucks School District, primarily at Chalfont Elementary School, until his retirement in 1985.
Jim continued woodworking throughout his life, making beautiful furniture and gadgets for photography and teaching. He was active in camera clubs, the Bucks County Audubon Society and Peace Valley Nature Center.
During his retirement be made a hobby of creating a photographic record of Bucks County's transition from farms to housing developments.
Surviving are his son, J. Preston (Marlene) of Audubon, Pa. and daughter, Jane Coale (William "Gill") of Pennsylvania and South Dakota, as well as, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services and interment will be held privately.
