Martha Jean Nigh Bassett (Picture included)
Martha Jean Nigh Bassett, 95, of Indianapolis, passed away November 12, 2015 at her home. She was born June 8, 1920 to the late Ernest and Ruth Nigh. Martha Jean grew up in Fairland, IN, and married Wilbur Bassett July 3, 1942. She was a 64 year member of Irvington United Methodist Church, where she was president of the United Methodist Women, Women's Circle leader and regular volunteer at the Turn-Over Shop. When widowed, she moved to Crestwood Village where she made cherished friends and enjoyed many activities. Martha Jean is survived by her loving daughters, Rosemary Caldwell (Chuck), Charlotte Deeter (Dennis) and Janet Massey (Jim); seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband, Wilbur Bassett; sisters, Julia Nigh and Jeanette "Pat" Brockman; and grandson, Jeffrey Deeter. Visitation will be Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12 Noon at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Living It Foundation (in continuation of the charitable works of Jeffrey Deeter), and/or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
