Funeral services have been arranged for Carl Emerson Bassett, 40, a
Hendricks Township man found dead in a woods near his home, Sunday afternoon.
Dr. James Tower, County coroner, termed the death a suicide by hanging and set
the approximate time as 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. Bassett had been in failing health for the past year. The body was
found by a brother-in-law, Harold Canary, of Franklin.
Mr. Bassett had been employed at one time at the Hougland Packi
company and then worked for the New York Central Railroad until two years ago.
He was the son of Calvin and Josie (Quick) Bassett.
The parents, with whom he made his home in Bengal, survive with
four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Ford, Columbus; Mrs. Alta Canary, Franklin; Mrs.
Mary Fish, ELizabethtown; and Mrs. Helen Pitcher of Indianapolis, and t
brothers, Dudley Bassett of Columbus, and Ralph of Amity.
Services will be held at the Flinn and Maguire Funeral home in
Franklin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Donald Knoy will officiate. Burial will
be in the Ninevah Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7:00 to
9:00 o'clock tonight.
