      Helen Thompson Bass

      Mrs. Helen Yvonne Thompson Bass, age 79, of Franklin passed away July 10, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to those she cherished most.
      Her funeral will be held Sunday July 12, 2026 at 4:00 PM at Franklin First Baptist Church with Dr. Andrew Owensby officiating. A private interment service will follow at Franklin City Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers will be: Clay Holtzclaw, Casey Merrill, Caleb Drake, Trey Alford, Will Alford, Cason Holtzclaw, Kade Drake, and Corbin Holtzclaw.
      The family will accept guests at Franklin First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon from 2:00 ? 4:00 PM prior to the service. Friends are welcome to honor her by wearing pink, Helen?s favorite color.
      Helen was born March 2, 1947 in Heard County, the beloved daughter of the late Wortham and Virginia Pike Thompson. She was married to the love of her life, Wilson Bass, for more than 39 wonderful years before his passing.
      Known lovingly as "Nanny," Helen treasured every moment with her family, and loved them above all else. She loved to attend school functions and activities her grands and great-grands were involved in, and rarely missed a single one.
      She was a devoted mother to two daughters, Sandra (Tim) Holtzclaw and the late Tammy (Ty) Alford.
      She is survived by her seven grandchildren: Paige (Caleb) Drake, Trey Alford, Will Alford, Daphne (Casey) Merrill, Ryan (Alex) Henderson, Clay (Megan) Holtzclaw, and Blake (Alex) Blanton. She was also the proud Great-Nanny of eleven great-grandchildren: Kade, Cason, Leiland, Chloe, Brady, Beckett, Kaylee, Aubree, Corbin, Whit, and Rowe. She was also survived by a sister, Ann Longoria.
      Helen loved her family above all else. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a devoted member of Franklin First Baptist Church. She was an enthusiastic sports fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons.
      She dedicated more than 25 years of service to Bremen-Bowdon Investment and later spent over 15 years serving the students and staff in the Heard Elementary School lunchroom, where she was loved by many.
      One of her favorite pastimes was attending activities at the Heard County Senior Center. She was a fixture at the center and formed many lasting friendships with the attendees. She was also an active participant in fund raising drives for the center.
      Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Bass; her parents, Wortham and Virginia Pike Thompson; her daughter, Tammy Bass Alford; and two brothers, Huel Thompson and Robert Thompson.
      Though she will be deeply missed, her love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
