Stanley Everett Bassett Sr., 81, of New Kensington died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, O'Hara.
Born Jan. 4, 1924, in New Kensington to the late Charles and Naomi Ross Bassett, he served his country during World War II in the Army.
After the war, he mined coal in the Barking section of Plum and in 1960 moved to Pontiac, Mich., and went to work for the Pontiac Division of General Motors. He retired in 1981 as an assembler after 21 years of employement and returned to New Kensington in 1990.
Mr. Bassett was a past commander of the American Legion and a member of the Elks, both in New Kensington, and enjoyed fishing.
He leaves behind his beloved children, Catherine E. "Cassie" Jackson and Ronald Everett (Shannon) Bassett, both of New Kensington, Sandra L. Bassett of Brackenridge, Byron (Cynthia) Schuler of New Jersey and Stanley E. Bassett Jr. and India Caldwell, both of Conyers, Ga.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ernest (Patricia) Bassett of New Kensington.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by twin brothers, Raymond and Ray Bassett; and two sisters, Charlotte Cosby and Yvette Houser.
Visitation will be from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, in the Ross G. Walker Funeral Home LTD., family-owned and operated, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a service will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Asa W. Roberts, pastor of Mt.
