OBITUARY: Bassett Taken By Death; Albert Elmer Bassett, 6519 Rugby street, Huntington Park, died Tuesday at a local hospital at the age of 80. Bassett had been a resident of the Southeast District for the past 25 years and of California for 30 years. He was a former secretary of the Los Angeles Y.M.C.A. and was a treasurer of the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles. Bassett was well known in the Southeast District and had many friends here. He is survived by his two daughters, Miss Juliete E. Bassett of Huntington Park, and Miss Beulah E. Bassett of China, and by two sons, the Rev. Carl Bassett of Huntington Park, and Edward K. Bassett, also of Huntington Park. Funeral services will be announced later by the Wheat Hallverson chapel 15 Oct 1940.
Dear Annie,
How Long it seems to wait for Thursday eve before I can see you. I am decided what to do, I will write to you. that will help to bridge the time. Do think that very much time elapsed before I reached home last night? Do you think that I did not bow down & thank God, for leading me in the path he had? O how unworthy I feel to night (as I sit in my room thinking of you) to receive your love and caresses you, who are to pure & good. Annie I do love you. Do not think it a mere boyish fancy for I have thought of this time & prayed for it not thinking it would come so soon. But one thing more Annie you are just entering, as it were the field of life. As you grow older & meet others, & changes occur which we think not of now. You may meet someone who is better worthy of you. Who is rich & whom you may love better. Think of this & then tell me, (I do not ask you to promise) can you, will you, give me some encouraging word, that will help me to work, hope, & trust, that some day when I am better able, you will be my guardian Angel my little wife? What say you my dear girl? O how I shall wait for your answer. I feel almost perfectly happy, to night yet I am doubting I know not for what. What a day this has been for me, at the store, I wonder if anyone noticed anything unusual? I have worked harder and sold more goods, than for some time. What would Emma say of this? Let us trust in God more than ever. I hope that book will interest you. Annie, do you remember the subject of the 13th Chapt of 1st Cor. I have faith & I hope.
