Alford obit
Clara Bassett Alford, 102, of Greensburg, died Monday, April 11, 200
Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg.
Born Aug. 11, 1902, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of George and Rose
(Gray) Bassett, both deceased. She married George Henry Alford in 1927; he
preceded her in death in 1979.
Mrs. Alford lived on farms in Rush and Shelby counties most of her life. She
was a 1920 graduate of Shelbyville High School and also attended Purdue
Homemaker's School. She had been active in Farm Bureau and the B.P. Club. She
was a member of Milroy United Methodist Church for more than 70 year
Survivors include three daughters, Sarah (Mrs. Fred) Deiwert of Greensburg,
Mary (Mrs. Herb) Richey of Lexington, Ky., and Ruth Stevens of Glenwood; 11
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral
Home in Shelbyville. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in
Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Milroy United Methodist Church or the
Hospice of Shelby or Decatur County.
