Mrs. Bobbe Ruth Bassett

BOBBE RUTH HUNT BASSETT entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Northside Cherokee Hospital. She was alert and coherent despite her health conditions. She celebrated her 90th birthday with her family, friends and loved ones on Sunday, October 15, 2023, with the visits, reminiscing and celebrating continuing into the following day. She was provided comfort care in the evening to ease her growing discomfort, and she passed away around 7:00 am on Tuesday morning.
Bobbe is preceded in death by her husband, Alton ?Blondie? Lane Bassett; her son, Jeffrey Manley Bassett; her parents, Esther Elizabeth Grice Smith Hunt and Robert Rivers Hunt; her sister, Ida Maureen Smith; her brother, Jack Tillman Smith and his wife, Mildred Awl Smith; her brother, Harold Dopson Smith and his wife, Vera Swansberry Smith; and her brother, James Theodore Smith.
She is survived by her son, David Hunt Bassett, her sister, Dolle Reeves, and many nieces and nephews.
She was born on a ranch in Durango, Colorado on October 15, 1933. Her family moved to Gallup, New Mexico, for a short time. She then moved with her family to Georgia, then Chattanooga, Tennessee and finally to Roswell, Georgia. She met her husband, Alton Lane Bassett, nicknamed ?Blondie?, while she was in high school and after she graduated they were married in Roswell in 1953. They purchased a house in Roswell and she has lived in that home until her death. She worked in her father?s shoe store, Hunt?s Shoe Shop, for some time, and when Alton retired, she worked for Walmart for 15 years. She and Alton purchased a house on Walnut Mountain in Elijay where they were able to spend a few years until his death.
She loved music, had a lovely voice, participated in choirs and played the piano. Her other hobbies included cooking and working in her flower garden. She was talented in flower arranging and arranged flowers for her church, family weddings, and whenever a splash of beauty was needed.
The funeral service will be held at Northside Chapel in Roswell, GA, 12050 Crabapple Rd with the interment immediately following at Green Lawn Cemetery at 950 Mansell in Roswell.
