John R. Bassett Jr.
MATHEWS - John R. "Jackie" Bassett Jr., 69, of Gwynn's Island passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 1996, after a courageous fight with cancer.
Jackie, a lifelong resident of Gwynn's Island and a devoted member of Gwynn's Island Baptist Church, is survived by his wife, Minnie Ethel Bassett; two daughters, Deborah B. Buchanan and Cathy B. Owens, one son, John Raymond Bassett III; and two grandchildren, Christopher Buchanan and Ashley Owens, all of Gwynn's Island.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Gwynn's Island Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Gwynn's Island Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews.
Memorials may be made to the Gwynn's Island Baptist Church Building Fund, Gwynn, Virginia 23066; and/or the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia 23513.
