Hanged Himself
Charles S. Bassett, a native of Mannington, who was assessor of Quinton township, hanged himself to the rafters in the second story of his wagon house in Quinton on Tuesday night.
He was to have joined a party to go to the ?barons? to hunt deer on Wednesday. When he died not arrive a searching party found him suspended with a hitching rope around his neck. He had been dead several hours. he was aged 45 years.
He was a son of the late E. Smith Bassett, of Mannington, and married a daughter of Peter Smith.
Mr. Bassett had suffered much from nearly a total loss of his right eye and it is presumed that was a cause of despondency.
