      George A. Bassett Dies at Age of 87
      Retired Farmer, a Resident of Auburn for 30 Years,
      Passes Away after Long Illness - Funeral on Monday

      George A. Bassett, a retired farmer, passed away at his home at 114 East Jefferson street in Auburn at 11 o'clock Friday morning. he was 87 years of age and death was due to senility. He had been ill for the past two years.
      Mr. Bassett was born on April 30, 1858, and had lived in Auburn for the past 30 years. He is survived by his widow, Ida Bassett; three children, Mrs. Cora Derrow of 114 East Jefferson street, Auburn, Ora Bassett of North Clark street, Auburn, and George Bassett of Gravill, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Jane Balzer of Sherwood, Ohio, and 16 grandchildren. He was a member of the Methodist church.
      The body was taken to the Gerig funeral home and will remain there until after funeral services to be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Van Hinckley, pastor of the Auburn Methodist church, will officiate and interment will be made in the St. Joe cemetery.

      Fort Wayne Following and Illness from Cancer

      George O. Bassett, age 65, of Harland, Ind., a former resident of Auburn and brother of Ora Bassett of Clark street, Auburn, died in the Lutheran hospital at Fort Wayne at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday of cancer.
      Mr. Bassett had been in ill health for several years but had been able to be up and worked until he was hospitalized on Jan. 21.
      He had been a resident of DeKalb county from 1900 to about 25 years ago when he moved to Harlan. In Auburn he resided with his parents, the late George A. and Ida Bassett of 114 Jefferson street.
      He was born in Defiance, O., on Nov. 17, 1887. The family moved to Auburn in about the year 1907 from the St. Joe area. Mr. Bassett was united in marriage to the former Miss Goldie Hobbs.
      Surviving besides the widow and brother in Auburn are the adopted son, Richard Bassett, at home; a sister, Mrs. Cora Derrow of Fort Wayne; a grandson and a nephew, Earl Derrow of Center street in Auburn.
      The body was removed to the Detting funeral home in Harlan for burial preparations and will remain for funeral services which will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will also be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Christian church at Harlan, of which he was a member. The pastor of the church will officiate at the services and burial will be in the cemetery at Harlan.
