Vivian Rachel Hornsby
Lakeland - Mrs. Vivian Rachel Hornsby, 96, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, with her family close by.
Vivian was born December 21, 1916 to Claude and Nellie Ballou in Redfield, New York. She has lived in Lakeland since 1947. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She retired from Mass Brothers after 20 years.
Always energetic, hardworking, and determined, Vivian was quick witted and loved to laugh - even into her final days. She enjoyed a good book and was interested in almost any subject. She was a ready traveler, who delighted in seeing anything new. You could often find her gardening or on the busy end of a paintbrush - if it didn't move it was likely to get a fresh coat. She was a cancer survivor, who always demonstrated a positive attitude. She took great pride in her complete independence up until 94 years old. She loved her church and pastor and was a member of First Baptist Church at the Mall for many years.
Most of all, Vivian's joy was her family. She loved to cook for them and was quick to offer help any time she thought she might be needed. She always said that her family had been her greatest blessing in life.
Vivian is survived by her son, Samuel Bass of Lakeland, her daughters, Suzanne Hazelton Bass of Lakeland, Pamela Elle of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Debbie (Mark) Irby of Lakeland, her nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Vivian out-lived all of her nine brothers and sisters.
A service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 10 am at Heath Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepard Hospice at 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, Fl. 33823.
