Pauline “Polly” Bassett
Pauline (Polly) Bassett – of Cape May, died peacefully April 9, 2008. S
follows her husband in death, Ray Bassett. Polly was born in Holden,
Massachusetts and moved to Cape May County in 1952. She was curator of several
museums starting with the antique auto museum in Princeton, Mass. She was a
restoration expert and as having extensive knowledge in antiques which later
led her to the Old Village Farm Museum in Rio Grande. Her talents were further
utilized at Uncle Dick’s museum of Skullville. Wheaton Glass Museum sought out
Polly’s amazing talents and hired her as curator and director of Wheaton
Village. She also gave lectures on “100 years of pressed glass.” Polly would
often participate in antique car competition. Polly and Ray won the Ford
trophy in the 1950 Glidden tour in which they drove a vintage 1903 Ford. Polly
leaves two daughters, Marade Bassett of Nashville, TN. Betty Overlock of
Brewer, Maine, one brother Bobby Mirick of Holden, Mass. Four grandchildren,
eight great-grandchildren. Funeral will be held May 10th, 2008 at 11 o’clock
at the Atlantic County Park Veterans Cemetery where she will be laid to rest
next to her husband.
