Funeral Held For Educator
Private services were held recently for Santa Monica Bay Area educator Helen Bass Keller, who died March 12 at the age of 92.
Mrs. Keller, a native of Indiana, came to California in 1919 and served as supervisor of elementary training at UCLA until her retirement in 1950. She lived in Manhattan Beach.
She tutored mentally retarded children, lectured statewide on teaching arithmetic and helped devise the kinesthetic method of teaching non-readers. She supervised remedial reading courses in Los Angeles and language arts in Santa Monica.
Mrs. Keller?s survivors in California include a nephew, Herbert Logan Bass of Manhattan Beach; and two nieces.
