Jean Mildred Bassett (picture included)
Jean Mildred Bassett, 83, of Sun City, Arizona, entered into rest Frida
April 28, 2006 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio where
she worked at the Methodist Clearing House then as an executive secretary at
Proctor & Gamble for 21 years. She met and married her "Dear John" in 1964
while working together and they traveled extensively. They built their
retirement home on Tumblewood Drive in 1973 and enjoyed a busy, productive
lifestyle. Jean and John became involved with the Laubach Literacy Program as
volunteer teachers and then Tutor Trainers traveling throughout the Southwest
for 15 years. They loved living in Sun City, Arizona and were involved in the
establishment of Lakeview Methodist Church, Boswell Hospital and the We
Valley Symphony. Jean was a longtime member of the Bell Ceramic Club. S
devotedly cared for John until his death in 2003. Her declining health made it
necessary for her to join him at Boone Adult Care home in 2002. Jean is
survived by her daughter, Constance Kolakowski of Sun City, Arizona; and her
son, Gary Bassett of Palmdale, California. Though they were grown with
families at the time she joined them, they were proud to call her "Mom". She
also will be missed by eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six
great great grandchildren. A daughter and a brother preceded her in death.
Arrangements entrusted to Sunland Mortuary, 623-933-1061, with services in
their chapel on Saturday, May 6, 2006. Visitation at 10:00 A.M. and service at
11:00 A.M. Contributions may be made to the Parkinson Association, Trinity
