Maureen Bassett

Bassett, Maureen, 79, of Howey in the Hills, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Maureen was born to John and Helen (Singleton) O'Connor on May 15, 1929 in Pelham Manor, New York. She moved to Ireland with her parents at age two and returned to New York when she was 20. She enjoyed bowling and was assistant manager of Classic Bowling Lanes in Jacksonville before moving to Howey in the Hills. Maureen is remembered by her husband of 28 years, James Bassett; son, Jack (Carol) Rink of Hamilton, Ontario; daughter, Gerri (Steve) Speed of Atlanta, Georgia; step-son, James Bassett II of Orlando; step-daughters, Lynne Brooks of Orlando and Sharon (Dick) Damron of Winter Garden, as well as seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 4th at 1 p.m. at Community Church, 420 North Palm Avenue, Howey in the Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, Florida 32778.
