LAKELAND - Viola Thomas, 92, died at home on December 26, 2013 of natural causes while in the care of Good Shepherd Hospice.
Born in Roanoke, AL on August 25, 1921, she is the daughter of the late Charles and Leona "Bessie" Bassett.
Viola moved to Lakeland with her late husband Arthur "Scrappy Thomas" where they started several businesses in Polk County. She is a member of the Cattleman's Association. She had a great passion for working outdoors and for her family, and especially enjoyed time at her ranch in Polk City.
She is survived by two daughters Virginia Mock and Carolyn Lewis (Ronnie) of Lakeland, FL; one sister Mary Baldwin of Birmingham, AL, six grandchildren Vanessa, Melissa, Anita, Brian, Tonya and Jason; and 11 great grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter .
She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur Thomas, her parents, her brothers Jim, Leon, Guy, Bill, Gordon, Pete, and sisters Lorene and Irene.
Services will be at First Assembly of God, 1400 East Canal Street, Mulberry, FL on Tuesday, December 31. Viewing will be 10-11am and services will start at 11am. Pastors Tim Sizemore and Terry Coe presiding.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Good Shepherd Hospice for the wonderful care and dignity they give to those on their final journey.
