  Notes	He served in the Civil War in the 49th Regiment, Company C, of the Indiana Volunteer Infantry. In his Civil War papers he is listed as from Bennettsville, Indiana. Bennettsville is in Clark County, Indiana. He was mustered in 21 Nov 1861 and mustered out 29 Nov 1864. Also in the same regiment was a James Bassett, enlisted 1861, died at Fort Gibson, Mississippi, on 1 May 1863. Served in same company and regiment. Both were in same battle of Thomason Hill at the siege of Vicksburg. After battle Commodore picked up his son and buried him on battlefield. Commodore married Harriet Able 1 May 1845 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. Harriet was 17 years old. Commodore came home from the war in poor health. One month after his return he suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered. He had to use a cane to walk and was unable to work. On 8 Nov 1867 he was on Creek fishing with his youngest son when he suffered a paralytic stroke. Commodore died 10 Nov 1867 in Bennettsville, Clark County, Indiana.
