She was born about 1832 in Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Island, West Indies. He married (2) Susan Bassett. Susan married William Laurits von Bretton Foss. William was a medical doctor having graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1847. He was the son of Ole Stampe and Baroness Lucretia de Bertton, Foss, of St. Croix, Danish West Indies, and came to this country in the 1840s. In the 1870s, William and Susan moved from Barnwell District, South Carolina and settled near Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia. Susan possibly had a brother named or nicknamed Guy Bassett.
