      Clarke Cooper Bassett

It is with great sadness that Team Bassett announces the passing of a valiant fighter, Clarke Cooper Bassett born on Feb. 12,1959 and left peacefully on Feb.18, 2015. He was born in Minneapolis to James Clarke Bassett and Martha Brown Bassett. The family moved to Pelham Manor, NY where he met his lifelong friend Greg Cornell, all because of a skateboard. Clarke attended Prospect Hill Elementary and Pelham Memorial H.S. He then packed his bags and headed to Hobart College where he continued his love of hockey and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau. After graduation, he crossed the ocean blue on a 32 foot sailboat and upon his return he met Peter Conrad and Peter Beam, who set his course to become a master sailmaker and designer. It was at Sobstad Sailmakers he had the opportunity to design and build the America's Cup sails for "Stars and Stripes" and met his future bride. Sobstad brought other gifts to Clarke's life when he met Doc Clarke and Kathryn Heiss Clarke and raced on a boat called Diogenes. Clarke went on to work for Hild Sails before starting his own loft, Kappa Sails. After his son was born, Clarke felt the calling to become a Reiki Master and went on to study Huna with the guidance of his teacher Evelyn. Clarke helped develop the Integrated Medicine Dept. at Middlesex Hospital which brought him much fulfillment. In his own healing, Clarke sought out to find a cure for Myeloma and advanced science by entering into a clinical trial at NCI. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Fogarasi and his exceptional team at Middlesex Hospital C.C. and Dr. Jagannath of Mt. Sinai, NYC who fought the fight right along with him. Clarke will be remembered for his love of fly fishing, kayaking, skiing the moguls, working on projects with Eben and his countless puns. Clarke was a devoted husband and father to his wife Kathryn and their son Luke, who he loved and cherished beyond all knowing. He is survived by his devoted sister Ann, her husband Scott, and their children Emily, Leah and Wilson. Clarke's wife's family, Edmund and Susan Dunn, Jr., William and Elizabeth Dunn, Joseph and Ruth Moschella, Peter and Janet Dunn, Brian and Mary Miner. Clarke's neices and nephews (aka FN's) and their loved ones, Rachel, Robert, Eriko, Ned, Ben, Bill, Julie, Michael, Shannon, Matt, Kate, Michael, Amanda, Kate, Josh, Kristin, Deirdre, Colleen (Go Relay For Life),Brendan and his great nephews Will and Max. He leaves behind countless cousins from North Dakota and beyond who will miss him greatly at family reunions on Pelican Lake. Lastly, he leaves behind his love of his life his C&C 27 "Aeras". Friends are invited to join Clarke's family at the celebration of his funeral mass on Wed. March 25th at 11am at St. Mark, 222 McVeagh Rd., Westbrook, Ct. Calling hours are Tues.
