Joseph A. Schroth
Joseph Alphonse Schroth, 92, of 123 West Fairfax Lane, Winchester, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Schroth was born July 9, 1909, in Philadelphia, the son of John B. and Philomena Ries Schroth. He owned and operated C.W. Motors in Winchester from 1947 to 1982.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, with the rank of major. He served with the 101st Airborne Division and landed on Utah Beach on D-Day.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and past president of Winchester Exchange Club and Winchester/Frederick County Chamber of Commerce.
He married Katherine Bassett on Dec. 6, 1940, in Aberdeen, S.D. Mrs. Schroth died Nov. 29, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, John B. Schroth of Winchester and Josaph A. Schroth Jr. of Atlanta; four daughters, Mary Angela Schroth of Romey, Italy, Sarah Walker Schroth of Chapel Hill, N.C., Barbvar Schroth-Williams of Loudoun County, and Katherine K. Schroth of Timberville; two brothers, Rudolph Scroth of Sarasota, Fla., and Thomas Schroth of Cherry Hill, J.J.; a sister, Cahterine Sizer of Houston, Texas; and six grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Michael Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, with military honors accorded by VFW Post 2123.
Pallbearers will be William Cook, Nicholas Cariello, Joseph Cariello, Ronnie Willaims, Stuart Williams, and Eric Williams.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
