Pioneer Rancher Dies of Illness
Funeral services for Don H. Bassett, 92, pioneer rancher of Lago, were held Wednesday, May 6th, at the Williams Ward L.D.S. Chapel, with Bishop Norval Whitehead conducting. Mr. Bassett passed away Saturday evening, May 2, at the Caribou Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
The family prayer was by Clark Mickelson. The prelude and postlude were played by Edsell Prescott. The invocation was read by Colleen Leavitt. Everett Smith sang "Oh My Father". President Dee L. Andreason was the speaker. The Williams Ward Signing Mothers sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd". The benediction was by Boyd Ruud. Elvin Meacham gave the dedicatory prayer. Pallbearers were Clinton Bassett, Alan Ruud, Boyd Ruud, Bud Bassett, Gary Bassett, Darwin Ashbaker. The floral arrangements were by the Williams Ward Relief Society, Carol Turner, president.
Mr. Bassett was born December 25, 1877, at Lago to Charles and Mary Lee Bassett. He and Amanda Elvira Meacham were married May 21, 1902, at Lago. She died October 17, 1939. He had attended schools at Pocatello and had attended Utah State University at Logan.
He had homesteaded at Lago and had lived there his entire life. He had served on the Lago School Board for several years, had served as deputy assessor for Bannock County and had served as road supervisor for several years.
Survivors are two sons and four daughters; Rex D. of Lago; Homer K. of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Milton (Lucille) Garbini of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Mrs. Lenore Ruud of Grace; Mrs. Bernice Coombs of Ogden, and Mrs. Dan (Pauline) Golesh of Salt Lake City; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Leona Knudsen of Salt Lake City.
Services were under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home with burial in the Lago Cemetery.

Charles H. Bassett, 86, died 31 July 1940 at his farm home in Lago, Idaho. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on 4 March 1854 to Mr. & Mrs. Charles H. Bassett. He married Mary Lee 1875 in Tooele, Utah. She died Jan 1929. Suvivors, seven sons and daughters, Harold H., Don H. & Willis L. Bassett of Lago, Fred G. Bassett of Pocatello (Idaho), Mrs. C.D. Murray, Mrs. Hattie Sainbrook, Mrs. Earl Knudsen, also a brother Fred C. Bassett.
