      Humphrey-Bassett Wedding

      Miss Beatrice Lucille Humphrey and Roy Bassett were married yesterday afternoon at 4 o?clock at the Humphrey home, 1105 Commercial Street. Rev. B.F. Tilley performed the ceremony in the presence of immediate relatives. Following the ceremony dinner was served.
      The bride wore a traveling suit of dark blue. The Humphrey home was prettily decorated with carnations and roses. The room in which the ceremony was performed, was decorated in blue and white crepe paper ribbons, caught in festoons.
      Mrs. Bassett is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Humphrey. She was graduated from the Emporia High School in 1917, and has taught school for the past two years.
      Mr. Bassett is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Bassett, and for the past two years has been in business with his father in the Bassett blacksmith and machine shop.
      Mr. and Mrs. Bassett went yesterday to Kansas City and Excelsior Springs and will return next week. They will live at 714 East Street.

      Roy Bassett Dies

      Roy C. Bassett, 827 West St., an automotive parts dealer for more than
      50 years, died Thursday evening in Newman Memorial County Hospital. Mr.
      Bassett had been associated with his father in the Bassett Machine Shop, later
      Bassett and Son Auto Parts Company, since 1909. He had continued to operate
      the business, which started as a welding and car spring manufacturing firm,
      until May of this year.
      Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the First Unit
      Church. They will be conducted by the Rev. Judd H. Jones, pastor of the
      church. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. The Blair Colonial Mortuary is
      in charge of arrangements. Members of the family have suggested memorial
      contributions to the Cancer Fund.
      Roy Bassett was the son of the late William A. and Nellie McGrew
      Bassett. He was born May 17th, 1896, in Olpe, where his father had owned a
      blacksmith shop for a number of years before he moved to Emporia. His first
      marriage, on June 1st, 1919, was to Beatrice Lucille Humphreys, who died on
      Oct. 1st, 1944, and his second marriage, on Nov. 14th, 1949, was to Hattie L.
      Harris. Mr. Bassett was one of Emporia’s best known bowlers. He was a veteran
      of World War I and a member of the First United Methodist Church and Ball-
      McColm Post 5 of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by three
      sisters, Clara Worster, Myrtle Hamilton and Kathleen Williamson, and by two
      step-daughters, Marjorie Bell Harris and Mrs. William (Juanita) Evans. He is
      survived by his wife, of the home; one son, Roy C. Bassett Jr., Topeka; one
      daughter, Mrs. George (Mary Ann) Crocker, South Laguna, Calif.; one sister,
      Mrs. George (Helen) Crumley, 318 Cottonwood St., eight grandchildren and two
      step-daughters, Mrs. R.E. (Phyllis) Laughlin, Prarie Village, and Mrs. Kenneth
      (Estalene) Bennett, San Jose, Calif.
