Jack L. Bassett, 65, who worked 35 years for the American Red Cross
Jack L. Bassett, 65, who worked 35 years for the American Red Cross before retiring in 1980 as administrative assistant to the executive vice president at the national headquarters, died of a cerebral hemorrhage August 8 at the Venice Hospital in Venice, Florida.
Mr. Bassett, who moved from Springfield, Virginia, to Venice in 1980, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Marquette University. During World War II, he served in the Navy.
He joined the Red Cross after the war and worked in St. Louis before being transferred to Washington in 1973.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, of Venice; two daughters, Barbara Heinzen of St. Louis, and Kathleen Scott of Houston, and five grandchildren.
