Ann (Bassett) Slaymaker
SLAYMAKER. Ann (Bassett) Slaymaker, 77, of Cherry Brook Rd, Canton Center, wife of the late William F. Slaymaker, died Wednesday (January 17, 1996) at John Dempsey Hospital and Medical Center in Farmington. She was born July 25, 1918 in Hartford daughter of the late William B. and Bertha (Messinger) Bassett and step-daughter of the late Edgar C. Lackland. She grew up in New Haven, and lived in West Hartford prior to moving to Canton Center twenty-four years ago. Mrs. Slaymaker attended the Wheeler School in Providence and Smith College. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Pine Meadow, St. John's Altar Guild, Eastern Saddle Horse Breeder's Association, American Horse Show Association, and was involved in many horse show activities, including work as a volunteer for the Child & Family Services Horse Show in Farmington. Mrs. Slaymaker, a homemaker, was also a volunteer for the past several years at the Wadsworth Atheneum, and at Child and Family Services of Connecticut, where she was recognized by the State of Connecticut and the Hartford Courant for her excellence in childhood education. Mrs. Slaymaker is survived by a son and daughter- in-law, William David and Lorrie Slaymaker of Laurel, MT; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara S. and J. Russell Sale of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren; and a cousin, Barbara Crampton of Bloomfield. Memorial service will be Saturday (January 20, 1996) 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Pine Meadow, with the Rev. Jean Salin Mill er officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany St, Canton, has charge of arrangements.
