- Mrs. Mary Jane Bassett
PERRY - Mrs. Mary Jane Bassett, 96, formerly of Bradford Street, who
was a plane spotter during World War II and who served lunches for civic
groups for many years, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) in Genesee County Nursing
Home, Batavia, where she lived for the last few years.
Mrs. Bassett was born April 13, 1906, in Penfield, a daughter of the
late Charles and Mary Gray Mandeville. She worked at the former Warsaw Button
Factory and Embury Lantern Co. She was a former member of Brick Presbyterian
Church, the Perry American Legion and Perry Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Bassett served lunches for Perry Kiwanis, Rotary and Mason
Lodge.
Her husband, Percy R. Bassett, died in 1974.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond (Marian) Bassett of Orlando,
Robert (Joyce) Bassett of Batavia, and William (Betty) Bassett of Dansville;
11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was grandmother of the late William Daniel Bassett, who died in
2000.
There are no calling hours. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at
Weeks Funeral home, 123 North Main St., Warsaw. Burial will be in Warsaw
Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Brick Presbyterian Church in Perry.

Mary Jane Bassett
Mary Jane Bassett, an airplane spotter during World War II, died Monday (Feb.
3, 2003) in Genessee County Nursing Home, Batavia, after a long illness. She
was 96. She was born Mary Jane Penfield and worked in Warsaw Button Factory
and Embury Lantern Co. She lived in Perry for many years. She was a former
member of Brick Presbyterian Church in Perry; Perry Chapter, Order of t
Eastern Star; and the American Legion in Perry. She served lunches for the
Perry Kiwanis, Rotary and Masonic lodge for many years. Her husband, Percy R.,
died in 1974. Survivors include three sons, Raymond of Orlando, Fla., Robert
of Batavia and William of Dansville; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren;
and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in
Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main St., Warsaw. Burial will be in Warsaw
Cemetery.
