      Dewey C. Bass

Dewey C. Bass of Marietta, GA passed away on August 16, 2017. He was born June, 1935 in the city of Ocala, FL. Dewey served honorably in the US Navy from 1955 to 1963; as a hospital corpsman for four years, followed by a subsequent period of four years in the US Navy Reserve. In 1964, Dewey relocated with his family to Smyrna, GA and attended barber school. Afterwards, he opened Bass Hair Salon where his wife, Jean, later joined him in this endeavor. Mr. Bass's esteemed career within the hair industry spanned 50 years, to include serving on the board of directors of the Associated Master Barbers and Beauticians of America, where he assisted in creating the International Hairstyling Olympics, and ultimately coached championship teams, who traveled throughout the world competing for and winning honored titles over the year. In 1988, Dewey sold Bass Hair Salon to his daughter Kim and son-in-law Jerry, who moved the business to its current location in Marietta, GA. While continuing to work at the salon on a limited basis, he and his wife, Jean, traveled the world together enjoying their time in many diversified locations. He was active in many professional, community and civic organizations, with his most cherished being the Calvary Children's Home, which he co-founded and served for 46 years as treasurer until his retirement in 2012. Dewey also served on the Cobb County Civil Service Board in 1998. Dewey will be remembered most for his love of family and for the lives he touched along the way, whether it was through his never ending dedication to the Calvary Children's Home or simply as a "great listener" to his clientele as Bass Hair Salon. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley Jean Bass and their two daughters, of whom he was extremely proud, Kim Potts (husband Jerry) and Kris Wilson (husband Timothy). Dewey was blessed with three granddaughters, Brandy Marcinko (husband Scott), Charlene Knight (husband Wayman) and Kristina Boswell; ten great grandchildren, Ammie, Sarah Grace, Annabelle, Scarlett, Brandon, Josh, Lacey, Patience, Isaac and Faith (predeceased); and two great great grandchildren, Ansley and Dawson. A service to celebrate his life will be conducted at Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta, GA on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Children's Home, 1430 Lost Mountain Road, Powder Springs, GA 30127 or Due West United Methodist Church Caregivers Ministry, 3956 Due West Road, Marietta, GA 30064.
