Norma (Darling) Bassette, beloved wife of the late Eugene E. Bassette whom she married October 27, 1951 passed away November 19, 2023. She was born in Wheelock, VT September 9, 1930 the daughter of George H. and Doris (Smith) Darling of Mystic, CT. Mrs. Bassette attended elementary school in Montpelier, VT and the family moved to Connecticut in 1942. She graduated from Stonington High School in 1948. Mrs. Bassette was proud to be a registered nurse, a graduate of the William W. Backus Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1951. She held many positions in the Norwich area during her 50 year nursing career and retired from the Canterbury School System in 1996. Mrs. Bassette held an active nurses license until her death. She was active in civic and professional organizations as a member of the Republican Town Committee and the Board of Education in Lisbon where she lived for 57 years before moving to Brooklyn to be with her son Gary and daughter-in-law Laurie. Mrs. Bassette was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church Taftville and a member of the WW Backus Alumni Association. She is survived by two sons Gary and his wife Laurie of Brooklyn and Andre and his wife Carol and one daughter Lisa Bassett all of New Hampshire, three granddaughters Kristin Zurek (Brandon), Jordan Dabkowski (Daniel) and Erica, two great granddaughters Rosanna Zurek and Emilia Dabkowski, two sisters Marjorie Smith and Linda Bramblett (Jerry) both of Georgia, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bassette was predeceased by her husband Eugene in 2018, her sister Toni Shearston of California, brother-in-law Roy Smith and grandson Marcus Ballaro. All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church Taftville Monday November 27th at 11:00 am. Entombment to follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum Norwich.
