George Bassett
George W. Bassett, 86, of Evansville, died Monday at St. Mary's Medical Center. He retired from Chrysler Corp. and was a member of the Evansville Masonic Lodge 64 and Scottish Rite. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Sperling and Sharon Luttrell, both of Evansville; two brothers, Gene Bassett of Evansville and the Reverend John Bassett of Versailles, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jim Mefford, and John and Bill Sperling; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. His wife, Dorothy, died in 1996. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Reverend Maurice Melton officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Heritage School.
