Michael George Bessette
Michael George Bessette passed away on February 7, 2023, at the age of 72.
Born 1950, to the late George and Marie Rose (Thibeault) Bessette of Plainfield.
Michael graduated from Plainfield High School in 1968 and began working at Pervel Industries Inc., he was promoted to foreman in 1973. Michael was married in 1971 to his former spouse and had one daughter. A man of many talents, Michael dominated a variety of professions including joining the West Wauregan Volunteer Fire Department as a fireman, EMT, and eventually assistant chief. He worked many years as a stone cutter for LaPerle's and later Tri-County Memorials. In between he held a respected position at Anchor Glass Container in Dayville.
In 1996, Michael graduated with honors from Johnson and Wales University in culinary arts. He quickly went to work as the Executive Chef of The Lord Thompson Manor, leading to the honor of being considered for a prestigious James Beard award.
When he wasn't cooking, Big Mike (as he was known to his family and friends), enjoyed photography, playing guitar, gardening, fishing, and visiting with his beloved Grand-Cats.
Mike is survived by his daughter Christina and Son-in-law Michael Stadolnik of Plainfield. Brothers: Francis (Evelyn) Bessette of Brooklyn, Gerard Bessette of New York and Sister, Louise (the late Louie) LaPerle of Scotland. Brothers-in-law: Peter (Kim) Aubin of Danielson, Andrew (Debbie) Aubin of Sterling; Sisters-in-law: Julie (John) Bence of Groton, Jennifer Aubin of Groton. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews and so many that affectionately called him "Uncle Mike" through the years.
Mike will be remembered for being hardworking, and generous with a great smile and laugh. Those lucky enough to have had his cookies, know they will never be replicated.
Graveside services will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Plainfield CT (808 Norwich Rd, 06374) on Saturday March 18, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations are welcome in Michael's name to any animal shelter or volunteer fire department of your choosing.
