Richard W. Bassett
Richard W. Bassett, 78, 4160 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, died Thursday (Oct. 8, 1987) in Santa Monica, Calif.
He was born in Sebeka, Minn., and came to this area 25 years ago. He was owner/operator of the Bertha Herald, Browerville Blade and Northlamb Times newspapers in Minnesota and served as Minnesota?s Conservator of Rural Credit for six years. He was a graduate of Bemidji State College in Minnesota and taught English and Journalism at Bradenton Middle School for 12 years. He was a member of the Church of the Palms Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes; two daughters, Elizabeth A. of Bradenton and Barbara M. of Minneapolis; a son, James W. of Cannon Falls, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Church of the Palms, Burial will be in Browerville, Minn. Pierce Brothers Mortuary in North Hollywood, Calif., is in charge.
Memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Association.
