Car Wreck Takes Life Of Woman
Mrs. Ellie House Johnson, 79, of 806 N. Alston Ave. was killed and her son, Jimmy W. House of the same address, was injured in an automobile accident on US 401 seven miles west of Bunnlevel Saturday about 2 p.m.
Mrs. Johnson was riding in a car driven by her son when the vehicle collided with another automobile.
Officers quoted she son as saying he apparently dozed at the wheel and the car struck another car driven by Junior Austin Allen, 34, of Bunnlevel.
Harnett County Coroner R.L. Pate said an inquest into the death will be held next week.
Both men were hospitalized from injuries suffered in the collision.
House was taken to Duke Hospital, where his condition Saturday night was said to be fair. He suffered chest injuries and multiple factures of both legs.
Mrs. Johnson?s body has been taken to the Hudson Funeral Chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements. Definite arrangements will be announced later.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Harnett County, daughter of the late Isaac and Adeline Johnson Bass. She had made her home in Durham for several years.
She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to Jimmy House, are two sons, Foy E. House and Harvey L. House, both of Durham; three daughters, Mrs. Stella Sessoms of Erwin, Mrs. Rose Bell Browning and Mrs. Mary Stancil, both of Durham; 18 grandchileren, one of whom, Richard E. House, she had reared since childhood; 13 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Nancy B. Bass of Fayetteville; three brothers, W.I. Bass of Fayettesville, R.D. Bass of Sampson County and McKinney Bass of Sampson County; and several nieces and nephews.
