Patricia Jackson
Patricia "Pat" Jackson passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 20, 2022 at the age of 92. A woman ahead of her times in many ways, she excelled at her chosen profession of nursing and at raising her family.
She is predeceased by her husband Norman "Top" Jackson, brothers Wayne and Archie "Bub" Bassett, and daughter Elaine Jackson Todd and is survived by children Norman Jr (Shannon), Kenneth (Lydian), and Rodney Jackson and grandchildren Roseanne Jackson Nehr, Rebekah Todd, Kendall Jackson, Matthew Todd, William "Will" Jackson, John Todd and great-grandchildren McKenzie Nehr, Elliott Todd along with many nieces and nephews.
Pat moved to Carrboro, NC, after her 1st job in New Orleans at Mercy Hospital, to pursue her nursing career as one of the first employees at North Carolina Memorial Hospital and help admit the 1st patient there. After marrying Top in 1953, she continued her career while raising her family of four children. While still engaged as a nurse practitioner, she went on to earn her Masters degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and spent many years teaching others at dook and UNC nursing departments. Upon retirement, Pat enjoyed her herb and flower gardens, bird watching, organizing and conducting estate sales, She also enjoyed hosting and teaching rug hooking events with a group of women that remained close friends throughout her life.
Her love for life, her family, and the Tar Heels was evident. The Jacksons often camped at UNC Recreational Area at Kerr Lake. Pat "made camping fun" by creating cobblers from fresh-picked blackberries, frying up catfish, and driving the ski boat. In later years, Pat was a gracious host for family holiday gatherings. There was always space for an extra guest at any meal.
