Melva Darden Bass
Goldsboro, NC
Melva Ree Darden Bass, 84, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Melva was born in Sampson County on September 1, 1931 to the late Egbert Gerald Darden and Veach Elizabeth King Darden. She was married to the late Hubert Joe Pete Bass. Melva was Goldsboros first female police officer and proudly served her community for 26 years. Melva loved Westwood United Methodist Church and was a dedicated and faithful servant her entire life. Her warmth, generosity and Christian spirit were well known and cherished by those she encountered throughout her life.
A service celebrating Melvas life will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will be Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
Melva is survived by her daughters, Janet Bass Woodard and husband Rex of Bentonville and Darlene Bass Newsome of Alabama; son, Gary Wayne Bass of Winterville; grandchildren, Chris Woodard, Amy Dover and husband Jim, Beth Newsome, Megan Newell and husband Timmy, and Will Newsome; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Newell, Ryder Newell, Nathan Dover, and Noah Dover. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Harold Bass and wife Hazel of Wilkesboro; special aunt, Edna Beasley and husband Roy and their son, Tony.
