Hubert Joe ?Pete? Bass
GOLDSBORO ? Mr. Hubert Joe "Pete" Bass, 80, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Pete was born in Duplin County on Jan. 10, 1931 to Lola Lee Bass of Goldsboro and formerly of Sampson County and the late Clarence Hubert Bass. He retired from Southern Bell after 35 years of service. Pete was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church, where he served the church in many capacities and was a member of the Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers and had been a member of the Moose Lodge. Pete will be remembered as a man of few words, but was one that got the simple pleasure of finding words in his daily circle the word puzzles. His family will cherish his memory as a loving husband, son, daddy, granddaddy, great-granddaddy and brother.
The family received friends Monday, Oct. 24, from 6 ? 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by his funeral services at 7 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Rufus Butler officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
In addition to his mother, Pete is survived by his wife of 59 years, Melva Darden Bass; his daughters, Janet Bass Woodard and husband, Rex of Bentonville and Darlene Bass Newsome of Goldsboro; his son, Gary Wayne Bass of Winterville; his grandchildren, Chris Woodard, Amy Dover and husband, Jim, Beth Newsome, Megan Newell and husband, Timmy, and Will Newsome; and his great-grandchildren, Hunter Newell, Ryder Newell, Nathan Dover and Noah Dover. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Bass and wife, Hazel of Wilkesboro; a special aunt, Edna Beasley and husband, Roy; and their son Tony; as well as many nieces and nephews.
