Marianne K. Bessette
PAWCATUCK - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marianne K. Bessette, of Pawcatuck, CT a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, to Joseph and Elizabeth (O'Leary) Konrad (both predeceased), Marianne was known for her love, kindness, and strength. Her passion for books and organization became her chosen work. She began as a student volunteer in the library at St. Bernards High School and carried that love forward throughout her career. She worked at the Groton Public Library for 20 years before dedicating herself to fostering a love of reading in students at the New London and Stonington public schools. Always eager to grow, Marianne returned to school to earn her Master of Library Science joking that she received her degree the same day she got her invitation to join AARP.
A devoted mother, Marianne loved being involved in her children's lives and cherished their friends as her own. She dedicated many years to the Girl Scouts, serving as both a leader and a counselor at Camp Laurel. She also spent countless hours volunteering in her children's elementary school library.
In her later years, Marianne faced many health challenges but persevered with unwavering kindness and a positive spirit. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 53 years, Bob Bessette; her two daughters, Danielle Bessette (Dave Zolotusky) of Newton, MA, and Nicole Gille (Stephen) of Sugar Land, TX; and her five beloved grandchildren: Gretchen, Wesley, and Samuel Gille, and Alexis and Julia Zolotusky. Marianne will also be deeply missed by her five siblings: Michael, Marc, Marguerite, Matthew Konrad, and Maureen Felker.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, April 9th from 5-7 pm at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 10th at 11:00 am at St. Mary Church 22 Broad St. Stonington. Her burial will follow the mass at St. Mary Cemetery in Stonington.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the individuals and organizations who cared for Marianne in recent years. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to the Westerly Hospital Foundation, 25 Wells Street Westerly, RI.
