Ambulance Man Slain
Enlisting here on March 7 last, Pvt. Henry Milford Bassett, son of Mr.
and Mrs. T.E. Bassett of Oswego, was killed in action in France on Oct. 11,
according to the official War Department notification. Pvt. Bassett w
member of Ambulance Company No. 116 of the One Hundred and Fourth Sanitary
Train. He is the first Syracuse Medical Department man to be slai
Bassett enlisted in the aviation section of the Signal Corps here on
March 7 and was sent to Ellington Field, Houston, Tex., from where, after a
short period of training, he was transferred to the Ambulance Company. He was
at Camp Mills later and the unit sailed for France July 1.
Pvt. Bassett was born in Oswego twenty-one years ago. He was a
graduate of the public schools there and the Oswego High School. He w
member of Christ Church and of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew at Oswego.
Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Miss Catherine Bassett of that
city, and Pvt. Karl E. Bassett in the Ordnance Department in Franc
The father of the dead soldier boy, Thaddeus E. Bassett, has for
several years been a member of the staff in the Oswego city engineer’s office.
