Frances Helen Bassett
Roscommon resident Frances Helen Bassett, 76, died Jan. 23, 2015, at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City.
Father Anthony Citro officiated a service Jan. 26 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Ennichement will be in Gerrish Township Cemetery. Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, handled arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was born in Roseville July 11, 1938, to Paul L. and Katherine M. (Dunn) McGraw. She lived in Roseville prior to moving to Roscommon in 1973. She and Edward H. Bassett were united in marriage Nov. 9, 1957, in Roseville. She was a homemaker, who also worked at Ames Grocery in Roscommon for two years, at Glen?s Market in Grayling for eight years and as a receptionist for Dr. DiPonio from 1995 to 1998.
Mrs. Bassett attended St. Michael Catholic Church and was a member of St. Michael Council of Catholic Women, where she had been vice-president. She was a former member of the Metropolitan Club in Roseville, was a Mercy Hospital Grayling Auxiliary member, past chairperson of the Rose Festival Committee in Roseville and a member of the Red Hats in Frostproof, FL.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and a sister, Evelyn Wion.
Surviving are her husband, Ed; children, Debra (Joe Hater) Leslie of Caseville, Rebecca (Don) Ragan) of Higgins Lake and Michael Bassett of St. Helen; six grandchildren, Katherine (Christopher) Ahlgren, Joseph (significant other, Renee) Fritz, Monica Leslie, Donald Ragan Jr., Angela (Marucus) Calahan and Collin Bassett; six great-grandchildren, Melissa, Meaghan, Malachi and Myles Ahlgren, Alayna and Analeise Calahan; and sister, Maureen Strebendt of Mt. Clemens.
