Heart Attack Fatal to Walter Bass
Walter H. Bass, 57, of 126 Walnut Court apartments, died at 11:15 p.m. Friday at his home of a heart attack. He has suffered several heart attacks since last August. Mr. Bass was the Waterloo manager of the Telex Hearing aid service.
He was born Nov. 26, 1891, at Rochester, N.Y., the son of Adelbert and Nellie Bass, and moved to Waterloo with his family in 1898. He was a graduate of East high school.
He married Kathryn Geyer at Waterloo, Sept. 18, 1912.
For several years he operated the Walter H. Bass Shoe store, and was also sales manager for the Chamberlain Corp. After that he traveled on the road for the Rath Packing Co., and in February, 1939, started the hearing aid service here.
Mr. Bass was a past exalted ruler of Waterloo lodge No. 290, B.P.O.E., and was president of the building committee when the present Elks club was built; he was a member of Martin lodge No. 124, A.F.&A.M., Tab3rnacle chapter No. 52, Royal Arch Masons, Ascalon commandery and the El Kahir shrine at Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include one son, Harland A. Bass, Cincinnati, O., and three grandchildren.
His parents and wife preceded him in death.
The body is at O?Keefe & Towne funeral home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending the arrival of his son.
