Harry L. Besett Jr.
MONTPELIER ? Harry L. Besett Jr of Tucson, Az., died May 28, 2010. He was survived by wife Rachel E. Besett of Tucson, Az.; son Harry B. Besett of Hardwick; daughter Mary Colleen Schoots of Vienna, Austria; stepson Raymond J. Fisher of Eureka, CA.; stepdaughter Cathy L. Fisher of Eureka, CA.; two grandchildren, three step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Cliff M. Besett of Staten Island, N.Y. Besett was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Richmond the son of Harry L. Besett and Flossie Moody Besett. He attended grade and high schools in Montpelier received an associate's degree from Vermont Junior College and a bachelor of science degree from American University. Besett was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the Army Combat Engineers at age 18 and was awarded five battle stars. An injury sustained during his military service precluded his pursuing a professional baseball career. Throughout his life, Besett was an active sports enthusiast, strongly believing in the personal benefits derived there, as well as their use to teach proper values to young people. He was reunited with his high school sweetheart Rachel after 36 years apart. Besett retired from the City of Baltimore, Md., where he was employed as the city budget and management supervisor. His retirement years were highlighted by numerous travels. No memorial service will be held. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Huntington, on Aug. 17, 2010, at 4 p.m.
