Clifford M. Besett
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Clifford M. Besett, 88, died April 12, 2009, at his home in Staten Island, N.Y. after a long illness.
Born in Richmond, Vt., and a graduate of Montpelier High School, Clifford Besett served in the U.S. Army during World War II and moved to Staten Island in 1945 where he worked as a truck driver and community activist and later as Councilman-at-large in Toms River, N.J..
He will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life, his many community service activities and his dedication to family. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen, loving father of Cliffie and Richie Besett, Sandra Saccone and Dee LaCross and caring brother of Harry L. Besett, Jr. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great, great-grandchildren.
There will be a remembrance ceremony at the Maplewood Cemetery in Huntington on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 10:30 a.m.
